Every morning, I microwave eggs for my adorable puppy, Buster.
As I make my own breakfast, I crack an egg into a special, microwave-safe bowl and Buster comes running into the kitchen – mouth panting and tail wagging! Just a minute later, his egg is cooked and breakfast is served.
A few weeks ago, though, all of Buster’s bowls were in the dishwasher. I didn’t have a ton of time before my first call of the day, so instead of hand-washing one of Buster’s bowls, I reached for one of our human bowls. Still microwave-safe, just not specifically for Buster.
The craziest thing happened – it wouldn’t cook! I cracked the egg into the bowl as usual, but the egg wouldn’t cook. I set it for 1 minute – 2 minutes – 2.5 minutes but still – the center of it remained liquid and I couldn’t serve it to Buster.
The bowls weren’t all that different – but for whatever reason, Buster’s bowls were the perfect setting for a well-cooked egg. Human bowls were not! Naturally, this made me think about life and how some environments are more conducive to growth than others. With some places and people, it’s super easy to be your best self – and others, not so much.
